Mr. Tommie Jackson, age 77, was born in Lawndale, NC to the late Bennie Sr., and Mary Haynes Jackson.
He departed this life on June 6, 2020, at the V.A. Medical Center/Hospice, in Durham, N.C.
Tommie graduated from Douglas High School, in Lawndale, N.C.
After graduation, he served in the U.S. Army 6th Infantry during the Vietnam War and was awarded a Purple Heart, Combat Infantry Badge, Expert M-60 Machine Gunner, Marksman (Rifle), Vietnam Service Medal with 2 Bronze Stars, National Defense Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal. Was honorably discharged in 1969.
After his tour of duty, he was employed by the U.S. Federal Reserve Board in Washington, DC. He later found his niche in the furniture industry, and became a furniture upholsterer. His love for furniture and decorating led him to do work for many designers, embassies, governor’s mansions, hotels, as well as a host of other clientele, before retiring. He was well known for his talent.
He leaves to mourn his best friend & wife of 45 years Barbara Eaves Jackson, and is survived by four children: Etienne Jackson (Kendra) of Waldorf, Md; two daughters: Tanya Jackson Shields (Taiwo) of Silver Spring, Md; Bahirah Jackson of Raleigh, NC; Thomas Crawford (Brenda) of Shelby, NC; seven grandchildren: Jasmin, Jamal, Jordan, Nasir, Aquil, Taliah & Isaiah; 1 great grandchild: J’Kai Bell; two brothers: Thurman Jackson (Violet) of Moreno Valley, CA; Frank Jackson of Spindale, NC.; two sisters: Bernice Baccus of Washington, DC; Linda Jackson of Gastonia, NC and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Funeral Service: 1:00 PM, Saturday, June 13, 2020 at Lea Funeral Home Chapel, 2500 Poole Road, Raleigh, NC.
Visitation: 12:30 PM - 1:00 PM, preceding the funeral service at the chapel.
