Obituary

Shawn Tena Bronson Woods was born the fifth of six children to Dr. Fred and Barbara Bronson on March 25, 1970.  As a resident of Cincinnati, Ohio, Shawn attended Cincinnati Public Schools.  Her elementary years were spent at Fairview Elementary and Roselawn Condon Elementary.  Shawn was a proud graduate of Walnut Hills High School where she created lifelong friends and relationships.  After graduating from Walnut Hills, Shawn attended Hampton University, where she met her future husband, Sjaun Woods.

While at Hampton, Shawn was active in the Biology Club, where she served as Ms. Biology in 1992, His Chosen Sounds Gospel Choir and her beloved Gamma Theta Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.   Following graduation from Hampton University, Shawn attended The University of Cincinnati where she completed a dual nursing program where she obtained a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and Master of Science in Nursing degree.  While completing her dual nursing degrees, Shawn worked full time at Hoxworth Blood Center as a lab technician.

After graduating from University of Cincinnati, Shawn married her college sweetheart, Sjaun Woods on October 11, 1997.  Their union was blessed with 2 children: Shelby (19) and Skyler (15).  Shawn took a tremendous amount of pride in being a mother, raising the girls to love and honor God, show both respect and self-respect and a value for education.  She was highly active in their school activities (parent advisor) as well as extracurricular including Jack and Jill (Chaplain and Chair of Health Care Committee).

During her career Shawn had an opportunity to make an impact in numerous hospitals/health systems. Prior to the family moving to NC, she work as a pediatric nurse practitioner at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.  When the family moved to North Carolina, Shawn worked at University of North Carolina in the Oral and MaxilloFacial Surgery department as a pediatric nurse practitioner.  Shawn was known for ability to connect with her patients and their families.  She brought a tremendous amount of joy to the dental school.

As the granddaughter and daughter of a pastor, Shawn grew up in The Temple Church of Christ Written in Heaven.  She was active with the Sunshine Band, Youth and Adult Choirs and the Sunday School Department. Shawn accepted Christ as her savior at an early age and her relationship with The Lord help mold her into the woman, wife, mother and friend to many that she became.  When presented with life question, her answer would often be “What does The Word say?” Her relationship with Christ was at the foundation of all of her relationships and life decisions.  When the family moved to North Carolina and became members of the Upper Room Church of God in Christ, Shawn continued her work in the church that began as child by participating in children’s church, parent counsel and various women’s ministry activities.  She established many friendships and mentored several of the youth who were interested in pursuing nursing.
