Miss Sharon Arnette Upchurch, 65 of Raleigh, NC transitioned to eternal rest on Thursday, June 27, 2024.

Memorial Service:  11:00 AM, Saturday, July 6, 2024, at the Lea Funeral Home Chapel, 2500 Poole Road, Raleigh.

Sharon Arnette Upchurch entered into this world on December 31, 1958 to the parents of Melvin J and Tamer O. Upchurch.

She attended True Community A.M.E. Zion Church, under the leadership of Pastor Alonza Burnett in Raleigh, NC.  She grew up in Love Grove A.M.E. Zion Church, Sanford, NC.

She was educated in Lee County, Sanford, NC.  A graduate of Deep River High School, class of 1977.  She was Deep River’s basketball star.  Graduate of Shaw University, Raleigh, NC.

Sharon was a loving person and a hard worker.  She drove the bus in high school and stayed on the dean’s list and honor roll (high school).

Sharon had a passion for fashion. She worked at the Department of Corrections for 35 years and the News and Observer for 27 years, she was a proud mother of Gerald “Dominque” Hicks, she loved and provided for him.

She leaves to cherish in memory, her son Gerald “Dominique” Hicks; Brother, Melvin R. Upchurch, Jr (Danielle) of Raeford, NC; Sisters, Jacqueline Upchurch Abrams (Norman Jr.) of Greensboro, NC, Melissa E. Upchurch of Apex, NC, Angela Upchurch Watson (Cornell) of Sanford, NC, Allene Marks Hodges of Missouri, and a host of nephews, niece, family & friends.
