Sanford Johnson, Jr of Raleigh, NC departed this life on Wednesday, April 24, 2024.  

Funeral Service:  11:00 AM, Tuesday, April 30, 2024 at Lea Funeral Home Chapel, 2500 Poole Road, Raleigh, NC.

Visitation:  10:00 AM - 11:00 AM, preceding the funeral service at the chapel.  

Sanford was born in Franklin County, NC to Betty Vann Johnson and Sanford Johnson, Sr., small acreage farmers who sent all four of their children to college. He earned a BS degree in Industrial Arts Education from Elizabeth City State University and later his Master’s in Education from North Carolina State University.

​For 40 years Sanford taught High School in Goldsboro and Raleigh. Upon retirement he did substitute teaching for many years. He is a member of the Omega Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, the National Technical Honor Society, and the Sertoma Club of Goldsboro.

​Sanford was preceded in death by his parents, first wife Joyce Johnson, sister Mamie Jones, and sister Margaret Kerney.

​Sanford is survived by his wife of 21 years, Constance Marie Johnson, daughter Jay’na V. Johnson of Greensboro, NC, son Jamaal L Johnson (Cassandra) of Walkertown, NC, grandchildren Mekhi and Avaree, step-children Douglas Corry (Lori) of Nashville, TN and Emily Butler (Tim) of Fayetteville, AR, sister Dr. Elva Johnson Jones (Emory), and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
