Leta Mae Bland Strickland was born on October 12, 1935, in Bolton, North Carolina, to her parents Melinda “Lindy” Freeman-Bland and George “Son” Bland, both of whom preceded her in death. On October 20, 2025, she gained her heavenly wings and transitioned peacefully.
Leta Mae Bland Strickland lived a life filled with love, faith, and dedication to her family and community. She was a cherished mother, grandmother, and friend who touched the hearts of all who knew her.
Leta had a passion for outdoor living, gardening, fishing, her family and community service. She was deeply involved in her church and devoted her time to caregiving, community activities, volunteer work, or mentoring.
Her strength, kindness, and unwavering faith were evident in every aspect of her life. Leta’s legacy will continue through the love she shared, the lives she touched, and the memories she created.
She leaves to honor her legacy her children: Sherry Ann Bland-Jenkins of Morrow, GA, Loretta “Abby” Batiste of Palm Bay, FL, Lorette “Snuff” Batiste-Pereira of Hampton, GA, Minerva “Faye” Strickland of Raleigh, NC, and a sister Lois Autry of Wallace, NC. Her love also extends to a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, relatives, and dear friends across the country who will forever treasure her memory
Funeral Service: 12:00 PM, Thursday, October 30, 2025 at Watts Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, 3703 Tryon Road, Raleigh, NC.
Visitation: 11:30 AM - 12:00 PM, preceding the funeral service at the church.
