Jean Marie Horner

Jean Marie Horner received her heavenly wings on October 8, 2025, at 8:58 pm, while hospitalized at Suburban Hospital in Bethesda, Maryland.  Jean was born on October 21, 1942, in Nashville, North Carolina.  A proud graduate of Perry High School in Louisburg, NC and North Carolina Central University, Durham, NC.  Jean earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration.

Jean valued education and devoted her career to teaching and mentoring youth.  She began teaching in Enfield, NC and later joined the DC Public Schools.  She also served as a researcher at the US Library of Congress.  Her love for learning extended beyond the classroom through her travels to France, Denmark, Sweden, Holland, and Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.  She retired from DC Public Schools on April 1, 2003, leaving behind a legacy of wisdom, kindness, and grace.

Jean dedicated her life to Christ at an early age and joined Union Hill Baptist Church, where she faithfully attended Sunday School and church activities.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents, Gladys and Johnie Horner; brother, Linwood Horner; and sister, Betsy H Parrish.

She leaves to cherish her memory her sisters, Carstine H. Thompson, Melinda H. Wilkins (Billy), and Rometta H. Dennis (Roland) of Silver Spring, MD; brothers, Benjamin F. Horner (Mildred), Arvester Horner (Alice), and Johnnie D Horner (Mable) of Nashville, NC; dear friend Lucille Thomas Lea of Raleigh, NC; godson, Xavier Johnson of Upper Marlboro, MD; beloved nieces and nephews; and a host of cousins, family and friends.
