Janet Earle (Ervin) Davis

Janet “Gale” Earle Ervin Davis, loving mother, sister and friend, passed away at her home in Raleigh, NC on Wednesday, October 28, 2020. Gale was born on February 19, 1951 in Raleigh, NC to Edna Hardy and raised by Jeannie Ervin Hockaday.

Gale raised two daughters, Dakia Davis and Daria Ervin. She had a passion for spending time with family and friends, bargain shopping and her sweet tea! She was known for her quick wit, easy-going attitude, and her kind and compassionate spirit.

Gale graduated from John W. Ligon High School in 1968. She went on to complete a year of college at NCCU in Durham and a course at Hardbarger Business College. She was known for her quick wit, easy-going attitude, and her kind, compassionate spirit. Her strong commitment to caring for others is reflected in her 35 years of work at Dorothea Dix Hospital. After her tenure at Dix, Gale continued her professional career at Southeastern Healthcare Of North Carolina Inc. 

Gale was preceded in death by her daughter Daria, her brothers Tyrone Hardy, Wilburt Hardy and Michael Hardy, sister Janet Fowler, nephew James Fowler, her mothers Jennie and Edna, and her beloved family pet Heidi Ervin Davis. She leaves to cherish her memory: Daughter, Dakia Davis of Raleigh, NC; Niece, Rose “Tiny” Haywood (Charles); Cousin, April Griffin; Brothers, Paul Hardy (Cyndie) of Apex, NC, Dennis Hardy (Margie) of TX, and Joe Nathan Hardy (Genetta) of Smithfield, NC;  a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Arrangements entrusted to Lea Funeral Home. A graveside funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, November 5, 2020 at Mount Hope Cemetery, 120 Prospect Ave., Raleigh, NC.

The family suggests memorial contributions be sent to the Bethlehem Baptist Church (7215 Six Forks Road, NC 27615) to support the food pantry, one of Gale’s favorite causes.
