James Michael Richards

Our beloved brother Jim died unexpectedly Thursday July 8, 2021, of natural causes. He is survived by his two sisters, Diana Richards of Kentucky, and Virginia Dellinger, her husband Rob, and daughters Sara and Emma, of Raleigh. His aunt in TN, and his uncle in TX, in addition to several cousins and their children. 

Jim, was born in Phoenix, AZ. He spent the next several years moving with his family, cross country, to Hendersonville, NC, to Brea, CA, and back to Hendersonville, NC. After college at UNCA, he took a job with the Asheville YMCA as the Aquatics Director. Eventually he settled in Raleigh, NC. He worked for Sam Ashe for a few years. Then he worked at UMM, before getting a job with Fidelity. He moonlighted as a security guard for PNC where he enjoyed working the sporting events and especially the concerts. He finally settled happily with CapTrust as a Senior Associate in Participant Advisor Services. He was about to celebrate his 5th anniversary and was looking forward to a long, successful career.  Regularly, Jim used vacation time to volunteer at events for the Special Olympics. He was a member of the Porsche club and enjoyed the get togethers to see other’s cars and go on drives. He loved to play his guitars and he would swim several times a week.

His laugh was infectious, and it drew people to him. He was artistic, talented, funny, smart, and loving. It was an honor to be his big sister. We will be together again. Until then, we love you and will miss you, always.

Memorial Service:  2:00 PM, Saturday, July 31, 2021 at Lea Funeral Home Chapel, 2500 Poole Road, Raleigh, NC. 

Interment:  2:00 PM, Saturday, August 7, 2021 at  St James  Episcopal Church, 766 N. Main Street, Hendersonville, NC.
