Visitation:  12:30 PM - 1:00 PM preceding the funeral service at the chapel.

Interment:  Historic Oakwood Cemetery, Raleigh, NC

Survivors:  Wife, Linda Sue Gatling Chavis of the home; Children, Phyllis Andrews (Larry) of Franklinton, NC, Kathy Smith (Bishop Gregory Smith) of Angier, NC, James P. Chavis, Jr (Tamiko) of Willow Springs, NC and Kaneisha Headen (Everett) of Southern Pines, NC; Mother, Eloise Chavis Freeman of Garner, NC; 7 Grandchildren, Donavon, Jazymyne, James (LJ), Bryce, Kaydence, Gaven and Landon; Several Brothers and Sisters; Life Long Friend, Tommy Lee Edwards of Garner; a host nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
