Celebration of Life: 9:00 AM, Sunday, April 6, 2025 at Lea Funeral Home Chapel, 2500 Poole Road, Raleigh, NC.
It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Girija Rajangam on April 4th, 2025, at the age of 73, surrounded by loved ones in Cary, North Carolina.
Born in 1952 in Delhi, India, Girija lived a life that was full in every sense of the word. From her early years, she was fiercely independent; whether it was pursuing an education, working a job, or later building a home with her husband, she carried herself with strength, grace, and quiet confidence. Girija was someone who always took care of herself, and, more importantly, took care of everyone around her. Whether you were directly related to her or not, she was a mother and grandmother to all. She was the heart of the home, sometimes quiet, other times joyfully loud with her endless chatting and unforgettable laugh, and to know her was to feel cared for.
Girija shared nearly 50 beautiful years of marriage with her beloved husband, Raja. Together, they created a home filled with warmth and raised two sons, Santhosh and Madhu, whom she brought up with unwavering love and guidance. She poured her heart into raising them to be brilliant, kind, and grounded men. Today, they carry her legacy forward in the way they live, love, and lead their own families.
Everyone who knew Girija knew her as someone with a big heart and an unshakably positive outlook on life. No matter what was going on, or what life threw her way, she would always say, “Jally-aah irukanum!”—“We should have a good time!” She was kind, accepting, and deeply empathetic, and could make anyone feel at ease. With her sharp wit and humor, she had a way of making people laugh, feel seen, and feel loved all at once.
Girjia had a gift for conversation and storytelling. She could strike up a conversation with just about anyone: kids, elders, neighbors, even total strangers, and within minutes, it felt like she’d known them forever. Whether she was sharing a childhood memory, reciting an old recipe, recalling something she’d seen on TV, or spinning up a fictitious story entirely on the spot, every conversation with her was like watching a show you just couldn’t turn off.
She was the kind of person who made people feel at home. She loved serving others, welcoming guests with open arms, and always—always—cooking up something special. Food was her love language. She remembered everyone’s favorites and made sure no one ever left her home empty-handed or hungry. And, of course, her love for cooking went hand in hand with her love for music, so deep that even food, at times, took a backseat. She loved watching Super Singer,
listening to her favorite artist, K. J. Yesudas, and had even begun learning to play the keyboard. She also loved to paint, color, and draw, finding happiness in anything creative. She was endlessly curious and always eager to try something new, be it a big adventure or a simple hobby. Even in the smallest of things, she always found new ways to enjoy life and share it with the people around her.
Girija Rajangam was many things: a loving wife, a caring sister, a devoted Amma and Paati, a brilliant storyteller, a generous host, a music lover, and above all, a deeply compassionate human being. While we grieve her loss, we also celebrate the incredible life she lived, the countless lives she touched, and the love she gave so freely. She will be missed beyond words but remembered beyond measure.
May we never stop laughing.
May we never stop loving.
May we always, in her memory, choose joy.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 9:00 AM on Sunday, April 6, 2025, at Lea Funeral Home Chapel, 2500 Poole Road, Raleigh, NC.
