Gina Carol Gaskins Overton was born on December 27th, 1981, to James Carol and Blanche Freeman Gaskins in Ahoskie, North Carolina. Baptized at First Baptist Missionary Church in Powellsville at an early age, Gina’s roots are cemented in Bertie County, where she was raised and educated. In 2000, she graduated from Bertie High School and in 2004 Gina earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in Social Work from Elizabeth City State University (ECSU). While at ECSU, Gina was initiated into the Delta Theta Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, also in 2004. It was in 2006, that Gina married her high school sweetheart, Jerrel Lamont Overton. From their love, blossomed 3 daughters Ja’Brea Alexis, Jordynn ANiya, and Jasmin Gabrielle.

Gina lived a life rich with meaning, love, and connection. She was a daughter, sister, friend, and inspiration to all who knew her. Her kindness was boundless, her laughter unforgettable, and her spirit impossible to dim. She had an eye for beauty, reflected in her vibrant style and her love of color & culture. Her sense of fashion and joyful expression were extensions of the life she lived: bright, unapologetic, and full of soul! Gina described herself as eagerly energetic with a willingness to learn, where she manifested her dreams through her entrepreneurial spirit. Not only was she a builder of community, a leader, a manager, and passionate volunteer, but she helped to ensure those around her were thriving as well!

Gina Carol leaves to cherish her memories: husband Jerrell Overton; daughters Ja’Brea Alexis, Jordynn ANiya, and Jasmin Gabrielle of Wendell, NC; parents James & Blanche Gaskins of Powellsville, NC; brother Derek Gaskins of Powellsville; nephews Kyshawn & Da’Drae Gaskins, and a host of cousins, friends, & Sorors to honor her memory.

Gina’s legacy will continue to live on in the lives she shaped, the love she gave, and the memories she created.  We love you Gina Carol, but God loves you more.

We, the family of Gina Carol Gaskins Overton express our heartfelt appreciation to all, for the many acts of kindness, love, sympathy, and prayers extended to them during this time.

Though we mourn her passing, we are comforted by the knowledge that her light will never fade. She remains with us in every laugh, every song, every burst of color, & every act of love!

Memorial Service:  2:00 PM, Friday, November 14, 2025, at the Lea Funeral Home Chapel, 2500 Poole Road, Raleigh, NC.

Visitation:  1:30 PM - 2:00 PM, preceding the service in the Chapel.
