Darleen Greene Hunley, the daughter of the late James Henry and Osteen Greene was born on February 26, 1934 in Forest City, North Carolina.
Darleen Hunley of Raleigh, NC departed this life on Monday, August 8, 2022.
Darleen joined Doggett Grove AME Zion Church and participated in all children and youth activities. She later affiliated with the North Jersey Church a Sector of New York City Church of Christ until declining health caused her return home in the south. As a member in her church, she was very active with the Youth, Singles, and Women Ministries. She was loved and was very dedicated to God in her spiritual walk.
Darleen was educated in the public schools of Rutherford County, North Carolina, graduating with honors from Carver High School in Spindale, North Carolina. After completing high school she moved to Philadelphia, Pa. and married the late Lieutenant Vincent Hunley ( US Air Force). They resided in Richmond, California. In 1963, she relocated to North Carolina before joining her two sisters in Hackensack, New Jersey, where she made her home 50 years before relocating to North Carolina.
Darleen attended Burgan Community College in Passacic, New Jersey and earned a certificate in Retail Marketing. This training led to her working in a Ladies Boutique Shop assistant manager until it closed. She took pride in dressing to impress and helping others look good. Seeking new endeavors and training, she was led into the health field, the most rewarding of her life, being a Home Aide to the elderly. She retired after 25 years in that field.
Darleen was preceded in death by three sisters: Dorothy McGee, Martha Davis, Wilma Ligon and one brother James " Sonny" Greene. She leaves to cherish years of precious memories brothers; Samuel Greene (Lantha) of Raleigh, North Carolina and Donald Greene ( Jennifer) an adopted brother of Forest City, North Carolina, a sister-in-law: Virginia Greene of Inman, South Carolina, 9 nieces and 5 nephews, 14 grand nieces and nephews, 2 great grand nephews; and a host of other relatives, and friends.
Funeral Service: 2:00 PM, Sunday, August 14, 2022 at Lea Funeral Home Chapel, 2500 Poole Road, Raleigh, NC.
Visitation: 1:30 PM - 2:00 PM, preceding the funeral service at the chapel.
