Clara Yvette Miller Leathers, a lifelong resident of Durham, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on June 8, 2025, at the age of 65. Clara was a beloved daughter, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend whose warmth and compassion touched all who knew her.
Born on November 12, 1959, Clara had a deep passion for photography, capturing the joyful and candid moments of those she loved. Through her photos, she preserved the spirit of her family and community—moments that will live on forever.
A woman of unshakable faith, Clara lived her life devoted to God and was an active, loving member of her church. She cherished her church family and found strength, joy, and purpose in worship and service.
She is survived by her children, Marshall Anthony Leathers and Cara Synette Leathers; her beloved granddaughter, Makhiah A. Leathers; her mother Rebecca C. Miller; and her siblings, Reba L. Willoughby, Jackie A. Battle, Leroy Miller Jr., and Coretta L. Miller; along with several adored nieces and nephews. As well as, aunts, uncles, and cousins. Clara was preceded in death by her father, Leroy Miller Sr., and her sister, Loretta S. Burney.
She was known for her generous heart, her forgiving spirit, and her constant willingness to help others. Clara led by example, living a life rooted in grace, kindness, and unwavering faith. Clara had a deep love for music, especially jazz and gospel, which brought her joy, comfort, and connection.
Clara lived by the words, “God first, always. Know His truth,” a belief that anchored her spirit and guided her every step. To her children, she was a constant source of encouragement, often reminding them, “You can do anything you put your mind to.” These words weren’t just spoken — they were lived. Her faith and strength continue to inspire all who knew and loved her.
Clara Yvette Miller will be deeply missed but never forgotten. Her light lives on in every life she touched and the ones she passionately loved and championed.
