Birdena Lee Williams Joyner, affectionately known as “Bird”, was a beloved wife, daughter, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, niece, cousin and friend. Bird was born on July 11, 1950 in Harlem, New York, to parents Theodore John Williams and Birdie Mae Carter Williams, both predeceased. She peacefully passed away on August 28, 2023 in Marietta, GA at the age of 73. Bird leaves behind a legacy of love that will forever be cherished by her family and friends.
Bird was the oldest child of five children. She attended New York City Public Schools. In 1963, Bird relocated to Raleigh, NC as a young teenager to live with family. She graduated from J. W. Ligon High School and then attended Bauder Business College. Bird worked for the State Department of Education. Later, Bird was employed as a United States Postal Clerk where she diligently worked in that capacity for over 20 years, up until her retirement.
Bird married her high school sweetheart, the late Charles Lindbergh Joyner on November 24, 1972. Together they were blessed to welcome two beautiful daughters, Tracee Charlene and Tashia “Shia” Dionne. Bird enjoyed cooking, baking delicious desserts for family and friends, shopping near and far and telling stories with a great sense of humor. Bird was quite generous with her time, resources and talents. She would joyfully donate to the church annual back-to-school drive and will be remembered for having a lasting impact on the many lives she touched.
Bird lived a GOOD and fulfilling life. Her memory will be cherished by her loving daughters, Tracee Sapp (Cedric) of Mableton, GA and Tashia Joyner of Harlem, NY; one grandson, Cameron C. McEachern; three granddaughters, Kelsey J. McEachern, Symone M. Sapp and Summer A. Sapp; brother Quentin Williams of California, preceded in death by brothers Theodore (Teddy) Williams, Quinn Williams and Quincy Williams; sister-in-law Shirley Smith (William) of Raleigh, NC; brother-in-law Leon Joyner of Raleigh, NC; devoted church family, and a host of dear relatives and special friends.
Celebration of Life: 11:00 AM, Thursday, September 7, 2023 at Young Missionary Temple CME Church. 2901 Sanderford Road, Raleigh, NC.
Visitation: 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM, preceding the funeral service at the church.
