Obituary

Nora Bethea Douglas entered ‘Eternal Peace’ on October 18, 2019 in the comfort of her home. Nora was born June 8, 1922 in Sanford, North Carolina to Rebecca Chavis and Fred Bethea. She grew up in Lee County where she graduated from W. B. Wicker High School. It was there she met the love of her life William Earl Douglas. They were united in holy matrimony on August 29, 1944. Their union was blessed with three children: Brenda, Benittia, and Candis.

Mother Nora Douglas spent her life serving the Lord. She loved praise and worship using her tambourine. She ministered to people far and wide through prayer and counsel. She opened her home to hundreds of people and provided care to an extended family of children who lovingly referred to her as “mother” or “Mama Douglas”. She worshiped at Smith Chapel Freewill Baptist Church in Fayetteville, where she served as a Mother of the church and on the choir. Mother Douglas moved to Raleigh in 1994 where she worshipped and served the Lord at Bethlehem Baptist Church. While attending Bethlehem she received a diploma in biblical studies from Raleigh Biblical Institute. She enjoyed reading, studying, and living God’s Word. Mother Douglas would continue her service to the Lord at her final Church home, Loving Word Baptist Church.

Mother Douglas held the Women’s Prison ministry dear to her heart. She actively served in the Women’s Prison Ministry during her time at Bethlehem Baptist Church and when God led her to join the Loving Word Church family she carried the vision for the ministry with her launching the Women’s Prison Ministry at Loving Word. Mother Douglas was a light unto us because the light of Jesus shined through her brightly for the world to witness. Though her light may be extinguished her legacy of service lives on through all the lives she touched.

Mother Nora Douglas was preceded in death by her husband, William.

Mother Nora Bethea Douglas leaves to cherish her precious memory; her devoted daughters, Brenda Bessard (Harold) of Raleigh, NC; Benittia Jones of Washington, DC; Candis Collins (Frank) of Linden, NC; grandchildren; Dana Davis (Bryant), Idara Bessard, Harold Antoine (Leona); Ayana Bessard; Abayea Pelt (Paul), Nicole Brown, William Collins, Enrico Collins, Walter Collins (Hope), Isaiah Collins, Candis Collins; great grandchildren; Sterling Bessard, Bryant Davis, Chandler Davis, Solomon Bessard, Kai Bessard, Scarlett Bessard, Bryson Spears, Chidiki Jones, Andrea Pelt, Angel Collins, Israel Collins, Jonas Collins, Kane Collins, Isaac Collins, Eli Collins, Candis Williams, Marchetta Gage, Giovanna Collins; ten great great-grandchildren; and a host of spiritual sons, daughters, family members and friends.
