Dolores Penny Stephens

Dolores Penny Stephens, 78, of Raleigh, suddenly passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 16, 2019. She was born on August 13, 1941 in New York, New York to Minnie Rance and Junious Sanders.  Dolores moved to Garner, North Carolina as a child to live with her grandmother. She went on to attend Garner Consolidated High School then went on to attend Saint Augustine's University, where she majored in Physical Education and Biology. Dolores worked at Gordon Potato Chip Plant as a supervisor, then transitioned to work at EDS Federal as a medical claims coder. After leaving EDS, she started her own cleaning business.

Affectionately known by her family as Hema, a name given to her by her eldest granddaughter, Ashley. Dolores loved her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren with all her being. She enjoyed every opportunity she got to spend with them. Dolores never met a stranger and always welcomed everyone into her home with open arms. Dolores loved her church family, as well.  She was very giving and would give the shirt off her back to help someone.

Dolores Penny Stephens leaves to cherish her memory,  her husband of 57 years, Ervin L Stephens (of the home), daughter Tonya Pulley (Phillip of Raleigh, NC);   grandchildren,       Ashley Sanders-Chisholm (Shaunta of Raleigh, NC), Quan Pulley(Raleigh, NC) , Quawinda Spinks (Quentin of Huntersville, GA),  De’ja Sanders (of the home) and Jada Pulley( Raleigh, NC) and 9 great grandchildren; all of whom she loved dearly. She is also survived by 3 sister-in-law’s, 2 brother-in-law’s.

The family will be receiving guests at 736 Saint George Road. The funeral and celebration of life will be held on Saturday, November 23 at 2:00 PM at Juniper Level Missionary Baptist Church, 9104 Sauls Road, Raleigh, NC. Visitation will be held at 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM, preceding the funeral service at the church.
