David Harris, devoted husband and family man, passed peacefully in his home on January 21, 2019, at the age of 77.
David, affectionately known as “Pee Wee”, the son of the late Lena Mae Mack and William was born July 2 ,1941 in Hartsville, South Carolina. At the age of 14, David made a decision to leave Hartsville and travel to Philadelphia.
Once in Philadelphia, David completed his high school education at Edward Bok Technical High School and majored in auto mechanics. David was blessed with the exceptional skills as an auto mechanic. He worked at Septa in Philadelphia until his retirement in 1993. At that time, David and his family relocated to Raleigh, North Carolina. He became an entrepreneur opening his own auto mechanic business until his full retirement at the age of 65.
David was a long time, dedicated member of the Baptist Grove Church. He loved to travel. He once traveled the entire country with his family. He also enjoyed traveling with his wife Bessie and spending time at the casino. He was an avid reader and you could always find David spending time under a car.
David is survived by his wife Bessie Harris of more than 16 years, his daughter Helena Dunn, step-daughter Stephanie McLean, step-son Johnny Holland, five grandchildren, three great grandchildren, nine sister-in-laws, two brother-in-laws, and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by his first wife, DeVon Harris, his son, David Harris Jr., his mother, Lena Mae Mack, his step-father, Lorrie Mack and his brother James Harris.
Funeral Service: 12:00 PM, Saturday, January 26, 2019 at Baptist Grove Church, 7109 Leesville Road, Raleigh, NC.
Visitation: 11:30 AM - 12:00 PM, preceding the funeral service at the church.
Interment: Baptist Grove Church Cemetery, Raleigh, NC.
